Every year since 1966 FC Barcelona hosts a pre-season football competition at their famous stadium of Camp Nou. The patron of the competition is the founder of the Barcelona football team- Joan Gamper.
Along with Trofeo Teresa Herrera by Deportivo de La Coruña, Trofeo Ramón de Carranza by Cádiz CF and Trofeo Santiago Bernabéu by Real Madrid C.F. is Joan Gamper Trophy one of the most important summer trophies in Spain.
Between 1966 and 1996 was the Joan Gamper Trophy a four team tournament, but since 1997 it is just two team competition. It can include football teams from the Italian liga, the German Bundesliga, some South American teams such as SC Internacional of Brazil and some more. Of course some Spanish clubs have been participating during the years like CD Tenerife and Valencia CF.
According to the statistics has FC Barcelona won the Joan Gamper Trophy 33 times, followed by FC Köln with two titles. Last year´s champion is the English Manchester City, won by just one goal by Martin Petrov.
This year the competition should take place at the 16th of August, but the information is still not officially confirmed.
