The village was built to provide an insight to the diversity in wealth and culture in Spain for the Barcelona International Exhibition. Barcelona open-air museum of architecture is situated alongside replicas of Spanish buildings, streets and squares. 117 of the best models were selected to fit in with the harmonious composition of the project. Devoted to art Poble Español is home to an important art centre providing activities for children and a variety of craft workshops.
