The band will perform at the Palau Sant Jordi on November 20 & 21, 2009.
During the UK post-punk backlash at the turn of the 80s, when bands dispensed with guitars and drums in favour of synthesizers and drum machines, Depeche Mode formed, taking their name from the title of a French style magazine. More than 20 years later, they are recognized as the most successful “electro-synth” longest-lived band ever influencing many popular recording artists, in part due to their recording techniques and innovative use of sampling.
Depeche Mode had forty-five songs in the UK Singles Chart and #1 albums in UK, US and throughout Europe. According to EMI, Depeche Mode have sold over 75 million albums worldwide, as part of total worldwide record sales (including singles) in excess of 100 million.
In the last year’s press-conference Depeche Mode came out with their new logo and announced their European Tour of the Universe 2009. This tour is their first since Playing the Angel, which broke attendance records in Europe, registering 1.8 milli
on tickets sold in 87 performances. Depeche Mode said that their new album ¨Sounds of the Universe” is the pinnacle of their musical composition and creative level. The bands current hit single, on the Sounds of the Universe album, titled “Wrong” is a MUST listen song on the album.
Depeche Mode will play to over 1.3 million fans in 28 cities in 22 countries before ending in Portugal at the Super Rock Festival on the European tour. One of the world’s biggest and best live acts, Tour of the Universe 2009 is a must see spectacle, which will undoubtedly be the musical highlight of this year.
