June-October

The Joan Miró Foundation is inevitably linked with the first major exhibition organized by Joan Miró in Barcelona, around the year 68. The foundation brought vitality and dynamism, with a new concept of museum, for a mix of artistic expressions of all kinds.

Today, the Fundació Joan Miró is still a reference within the international art circuit. The temporary exhibition program focuses both on the creation of historical movements and on the latest trends in contemporary art.

A new show will open in June and it will last until October: the “Miró – Dupin, Art and Poetry”. This fantastic exhibition, will not leave you indifferent, and occurs in two well defined parts.

The first part is called Joan Miró and Poetry, and teaches us the constant interest of the artist for literature and poetry. This is not surprising, because Miró was in touch with the poetic avant-garde circle of the Galeries Dalmau in Barcelona, and with the group of Surrealists Rue Blomet in Paris.

This part of the exhibition brings together a selection of paintings and drawings from the collection of the Foundation, complemented by books and magazines, both Catalan and French, from the own library of Miró.

The second part of the exhibition is called Dupin, Miró. It is mainly dialogues between the poet and the painter, and it demonstrates their close work relationship and friendship. Miro’s works from the years 1960 and 1970 will be exhibited, but also some books illustrated by the painter Dupin. You will also see critical writings about Joan Miró, published in catalogs and magazines of the time.

This exhibition is homage to Dupin, for its invaluable assistance in the understanding of the work of Miró. Dupin’s work is still the essential reference and provides extensive documentation to convey the world of Miró.

To be able to enjoy this wonderful exhibition, we offer our splendid and comfortable apartments in the center of Barcelona, ensuring a fantastic holiday at a price more than competitive. We recommend the Born Building II apartment, a comfortable apartment in the city center! Come and enjoy Barcelona and be part of this unforgettable event in the best condition!

Exciting news! Since they announced on the 23rd of February that their new album had been completed, the world has been on hold waiting to hear the punk vibe of “This is Happening”. It’ll be released on the 17th of May, just a month before the Sonar erupts into Barcelona, together with James Murphy and his band. It has been said that this is the last album LCD Soundsystems, whose dance beat set over a cool electronic base has one them two Grammy awards already, will put out, so for all you fans out there, this Sonar might just be the best occasion to hear them. The single “Drunk Girls” has already been released with its official video, but the rest of the album’s songs, with names like “Dance Yrself Clean”, “You wanted a Hit” and “Pow Pow” have not, despite the group performing at two secret gigs in New York.

They will get up on stage on Friday, the 18th of June, for the Night Sonar. If you’ve seen the post-punk gem of a video released for Drunk Girls, then you’ll agree with us that to watch the new album sung live just a month after its release is a well worth.

6th – 9th May, 2010

From the 6th to the 9th of May the 28th International Comic Fair will take place in Barcelona. The fair will be held in Hall 8 of the Fira de Barcelona and the tickets cost 6 Euros. If you like comic books you wouldn’t want to miss this great event during your stay in Barcelona!

This year comic artists such as Jeff Smith, Gilbert Shelton, Tanino Liberatore, Gene has, Lewis Trondheim and Ethan Van Sciver will present some of their most important releases. There will also be the exceptional exhibition of the masterpiece “Prince Valiant” by Harold Foster, as well as one dedicated to Manuel Vazquez, the legendary cartoonist of Bruguera. Therefore, this year’s International Comic Fair pays tribute to Vázquez and Jacques Tardi.

The International Comic Fair was created in the early 80s, due to the fact that there was an adult comic boom in Spain during the time. During this boom, many national authors were given the opportunity to publish their work. Furthermore, the first national cartoonist meeting was held in Sitges in 1969 and other international inititives were seen during this time, such as the congresses of Bordighera (1965), Lucca (1966), the San Diego Comic-Con (1970) and the Festival of Angoulême (1974).

The International Comic Fair gives awards to participants for the most outstanding comic books in different categories, and the only condition is that they have to have been published in Spain during the year prior to the completion of the fair. The only exception is the “Grand Prize of Salo”, which is granted to an author for all his work in the comic world.

The most significant awards include the best work, best screenplay, best picture, the author of revelation, the best foreign work published in Spain, the best fanzine, the best magazine, the disclosure of the comic strip, and the “Grand Prize of Salo”.

If you are interested in comic books, don’t miss out on this exciting event while you are staying in one of our holiday apartments in Barcelona!

We reccomend you the Seaside apartment, perfectly located, there’s no need to use public transportation!

La Tamborinada is a children’s fetival in the Parc de la Ciutadella that takes place on the 30th of May this yeah. Many people come to enjoy this day with their families in the beautiful city park, where there are clowns, circus acts, magicians, puppets, music and games providing entertainment for kids throughout the park.

The Parc de la Ciutadella is the central park of the city and home to the Barcelona Zoo, the Musuem of Zoology and the Museum of Geology. It is a usually a busy place, crowded with tourists as well as locals going for a walk or taking their children to play with their friends in the children’s areas of the park.

La Tamborinada is organised by the Fundació La Roda, a foundation that focuses on promoting history and languages to children and fighting against any sort of cultural exclusion. The event was set up around 30 years ago as a fun alternative to boring teaching methods and has had increased popularity since then, with 90,000 visitors every year!

The theme at last years Tamborinada was “De tots els colors” (From All Colours), and its main objective was to bring people of all races and origins together in the multi-cultural city of Barcelona. Unfortunatly, the event was cancelled last year due to heavy rain, so check the weather before you visit Barcelona!

La Tamborinada 2010 starts at 11:00 and finishes at 19:00 with many fun activities available for the whole family to enjoy. We recommend our Gaudi apartment, a spacious family apartment in the Gothic Quarter with three bedrooms! Let your inner child come out and check out this unforgettable festival during your stay in one of our holiday apartments in Barcelona!
